CRC is the Recognized Leader in Colorectal Surgery

CRC is the leader in Colorectal Surgery

For almost 40 years, patients, physicians, and their families seeking specialized training in colorectal treatments have relied on the skills and expertise of Houston´s Colon and Rectal Clinic.

Founded in 1971, when Drs. James M. Hampton and Donald R. Butts joined their separate practices in the Texas Medical Center, CRC has grown to include 11 board-certified surgeons and seven practice locations across the Houston area.

CRC, with its nationally-recognized surgeons and fellowship training program in colorectal surgery, is the established leader in the field of colon and rectal surgery. Our colorectal surgeons perform thousands of diagnostic and surgical colorectal procedures each year. Using the most up-to-date technologies, such as colonoscopy and laparoscopy, CRC surgeons diagnose and treat the broad range of colorectal diseases including colon and rectal cancer, diverticulitis, Crohns Disease, ulcerative colitis, and anal incontinence.

Training and Certification

Each of the CRC surgeons has completed five or more years of training in general surgery, followed by one year of fellowship training in colorectal surgery. They then become certified by both the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. Colon and rectal surgeons were previously referred to as proctologists. However, that term has been replaced in recent years and these specially trained physicians are now known as colon and rectal surgeons. Many people previously used the specialty designation of proctology but now use colon and rectal surgery.

CRC Trains Surgeons for Colorectal Practices Around the World

Through a fellowship program, affiliated with the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, CRC surgeons continually train colorectal surgeons who go on to practice throughout the world. CRC began directing the program in 1975 and has graduated more than 100 colon and rectal surgeons who practice worldwide. The surgeons at CRC trained 10% of all colon and rectal surgeons currently practicing in the United States.
